Part 1

President Bush , in his usual M.O , is attempting to scare America into privatizing social security. Social security is now "an imminent threat"(sound familair , saddam) to collapse , and we must act NOW to fix it
Fact check has explained his stretched claim of an 11 trillion dollar shortfall.( http://www.factcheck.org/article302.html)

The neo-conservatives , as well as the investment bankers , big insurers , and obviously the wall streeters are drooling over the idea of getting there hands on this multi-trillion dollar pie. OUR PIE... The advisers to President Bush on the economic benefits of his plan are none other than members of the investment banking world and their trade associations.

First glance at Bush`s radical ideological plan is diverting a portion of what we pay into social security into private investment accounts.
He wants to fix the potential shortfall of social security by denying social security its revenue ??? Sounds to me like he wants to guarantee the fall of social security so it can be abolished all together.
Any of my peers , appear to be on our own as far as retirement goes.
Another aspect not taken into consideration under Bush`s plan is the fact that Social Security is not simply a retirement plan , but a protection from poverty plan. Disabled workers , families of disabled workers, or families of deceased workers account for 37% of social securities payouts. Whats his plan for them ?

I have a lot more to say about this , and a lot more information to flesh out this little piece but wanted to at least put this out there for you to chew on for now. Visit the message boards to send your comments.

P.S - Why doesn`t the "Do it on yourown" believers seem to understand that rampant poverty will cost the rich at some stage. If they beleive in the trickle down theory , how come they don`t understand the Drag the economy down theory. Poor people cannot buy Rich peoples goods and services !

I wanted to give you a quick update on the debate over Social Security and ask you to take action.

Two weeks ago, Republican members of Congress went home to their districts and held town hall meetings with one goal: sell George W. Bush's risky Social Security privatization plan to their constituents. The result? Polls show that after a week of listening to the Republican sales pitch, the American people are more opposed than ever to the Bush privatization plan. The American people understand that 40 percent benefit cuts and trillions in additional debt will do nothing to preserve the long-term solvency of Social Security.

George Bush and the GOP leadership made a huge miscalculation when they decided to make a play to privatize Social Security -- a program that has lifted generations of senior citizens out of poverty. Democrats are united -- we've got Bush on the run and have a chance to hand the GOP a stunning defeat. We are winning this first major battle of 2005.

But President Bush isn't giving up on his plan to privatize Social Security. Instead, he's sending out his top officials -- including Vice President Cheney -- on a 60-day, 60-city tour to try and create public support where none exists.

And we're fighting back every step of the way. Democratic Congressional leaders are touring the country exposing the Bush Administration's risky scheme and protecting Social Security. The Democratic Party is airing radio ads in the cities where Bush's privatization tour stops.

We're winning this fight, but that doesn't mean it's time to ease up. You can help the unified Democrats in Congress stand up to Bush by letting them know you stand behind them. Sign our petition today to let Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and all the Democrats in Congress know that they have your support in the fight to stop President Bush's plan to privatize Social Security:

http://www.democrats.org/action/

We'll present the petition to Democratic leaders in Congress. Your support will make the difference in this fight.

Sincerely,
Tom McMahon
Democratic National Committee

P.S. We'll be sending you updates when the Bush privatization tour comes to your area, and let you know how you can make your voice heard. Also please listen to the radio ads we are running on Social Security. The first two ads can be found here:

http://www.democrats.org/

And more will be coming soon.
