Are We Safer ?

BY Kevin Beary 4/7/04

There has not been an attack on American Soil since 9/11 So are we safer ?

Im not so sure. There have been a number of attacks in various parts of the world including Morroco , Afghanistan , Bali , Madrid , Riyadh, etc; We read on a daily basis about our men still dying in Iraq, long after the war has been declared over. Recently , since the US shut down an Iraqi newspaper (Article link under News) fighting has become intensified and on many separate fronts. This is not just the "dying gasp" of Saddams Baathists. These are Shiites uprising, the long oppressed majority group of Iraq targeted by Sadaam. We are fighting Jihadists, Al Qaeda , Sunnis ,Shiites , Arabs , and god knows who else (hopefully the CIA Knows)

We have helped unite these groups of terrorists. We MUST have thought this was a possibility. We knew that WEAK states were potentially a threat to our country as Afghanistan proved. The weak state provides a safe haven for terrorists and druglords as there is insufficient infrastructure capable of policing the state. IRAQ was not one of those weak states. It may soon become one.

We have not only incited and united terrorists but created new ones. We created animosity towards Westerners between the Moderate Arab nations. We have alienated the populations and leaderships of Allies. The Polish president has suggested that he was deceived when his country agreed to participate in the coalition. The newly elected prime minister of Spain has announced he intends to withdraw his troops.

I believed in Bush , Read my post Prior to the Iraqi war . How duped was I ? Is it my fault , my ignorance. These are the words Bush used to sway us ....

"You can't distinguish between al-Qaida and Saddam when you talk about the war on terrorism....." , "... Saddam Hussein is harboring terrorists and the instruments of terror, the instruments of mass death and destruction."
And We all know the key words WMD ,, Axis of Evil , etc;

We now are beginning to find out That Bush and the entourage had always intended to invade Iraq and used WMD and Terror to persuade Americans, and Britons to do so.

FORMER TREASURY SECRETARY PAUL ONEILL SAYS INVASION OF IRAQ WAS PLANNED IN THE FIRST DAYS...

White House counterterrorism adviser Richard Clarke, who told the 9/11 commission, "By invading Iraq, the President of the United States has greatly undermined the war on terrorism."

Condaleeza Rice refuses to testify under oath to refute Clarkes DAMAGING testimony. That sounds fishy to me. We don`t yet know all the facts , or who is lying and who is not , But even If The Bush Administration is not lying and we have not been misled....... ARE WE SAFER ?

By attacking Iraq without the means or know-how to rebuild a functional state we have aided future terrorists. By attacking Iraq , we have enhanced our "Evil Empire" image to the rest of the world. By attacking Iraq we have helped unite scattered terrorist organizations. By attacking Iraq , we have created rifts between our Allies , and the United Nations.

I could go on .I admit it is easier to be a monday morning quarterback , but thats my right as a citizen.It is Very clear to me that the recklessness of Bushco and company HAVE NOT made us a safer country and more peaceable world.
